Let’s protect our clams from blue crabs: our proposal

Finding new solutions to enhance the value of seafood is one of our goals, protecting autochthonous product from proliferation of a weed species as the blue crab, is today a new challenge to us.

The solution we are testing comes from Australia: floating cages and poches that keep clams or oysters in suspension throughout their life cycle, protecting them from crab attacks. Made of a very sturdy material, they can be easily positioned and anchored in specific areas and moved easily.

Farming clams or oysters with the help of this innovative equipment may be the best solution for the coexistence of both species, native molluscs and blue crab.
